PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES

Injury assessment & diagnosis

We carry out a full subjective and physical assessment to aid in the diagnosis of all injuries, with the findings of the assessment dictating the correct course of action to help resolve your injury

Rehabilitation

Exercise is an integral part of recovery from injury and pain problems. Our physiotherapists provide exercise and programmes that are tailored to the patient. Exercises are given to reduce pain and stiffness, to improve flexibility and strength, and to return to sport/normal activity. The advantage of exercise therapy is that it allows the client to manage their condition at home, leading to fewer physiotherapy sessions. It also helps to prevent recurrences. We realise that exercise isn’t always easy so our aim is to make it simple and enjoyable.

Electrotherapy

At Tullamore Physiotherapy Clinic we provide TENS, Ultrasound and Laser Therapy. TENS is an electrical treatment applied using electrodes for pain relief. It works by blocking transmission of pain signals along nerves. TENS portable units are a useful and cost effective way for patients to manage their pain at home. Ultrasound therapy consists of sound waves applied to an area with the aim of increasing healing of the tissues. It is a relaxing, comfortable treatment particularly useful for bruising, muscle and ligament damage. Laser involves applying light waves to damaged tissue with the aim of increasing speed and quality of healing.

Dry needling

Dry Needling is a technique that uses needles to release tension in knotted muscles (myofascial trigger points), helping to reduce pain and discomfort.

Orthotics (insoles)

Orthotics are insoles used primarily to treat foot and leg pain resulting from poor foot positioning. They can help with various conditions such as painful feet, flat feet, tendon issues, bunions, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, shin splints, as well as neck and back pain, knee pain, and hip bursitis. Orthotics are used in conjunction with an exercise program and guidance on managing the condition. There are two types of orthotics available. Off-the-shelf insoles are suitable for many foot types and conditions, costing around €50-€60. Custom-made orthotics are molded specifically for an individual's foot, involving a plaster cast and typically costing approximately €250. The choice between them depends on factors like cost, occupation, hobbies, the duration of pain, and the extent of foot problems, made in consultation with the client. Temporary inserts can be as affordable as €5.

Massage/manipulations

Manipulative therapy / manual therapy is the management of conditions using hands-on techniques. These include gentle passive movement of joints (mobilisations) and thrust techniques (manipulation) where appropriate. These techniques may be used in conjunction with massage, manual stretching and exercises. These techniques are used to increase movement and relieve pain.
